Give the Gift of Curiosity: 5 Tips I’ve learned from my daughter.
One good knife skill. I love to cook. I’ve wielded knives on cutting boards every day for decades. In fact one of my dear friends, Linda, (oh bless her memory!) once said she just loved to watch my hands ‘dance’ in the kitchen. But, you know what? It wasn’t until watching my daughter that I realized I wasn’t starting with my French Chef’s Knife tip on the cutting board—followed by a nice smooth, stable downward rocking motion. Now I do. This little shift—first place the tip—is game-changing! I’m safer, too. Notice the power of one small change.
A small, fresh whiteboard on my desk for those sweet “to do’s.” True confession: I was the queen of the sticky notes—and they’d drive me a bit crazy. Sometimes—they wouldn’t even stick and just fall off like free-floating chaos! Now, my whiteboard calms me. I love the smooth velvet feel of sliding my finger over completed items. I know there’s an eraser—but honestly, I’m going to stick with my finger and that extra sensual pleasure! It’s better for our precious planet, too.
Sounds/alerts/notifications off on my devices. This puts me in the driver’s seat of my attention. To go deeper. To be the one who chooses what/when I engage with technology. I had some of this in play—but my daughter’s coaching/wisdom upped my game.
She’s taught me thousands more—but three’s the charm for today!
Notice that I didn’t set out to learn these things. This happened effortlessly—the natural flow of observation turned into action. What have you learned lately? Here’s to you! Notice everything—and be a learner. Let life teach you. Let it surprise you! This not only ups your game—it ups your joy. Stay curious!
